Discharge processing is made by creating an electric current between the processed object and the processor, then slowly moving the object to be processed. It's a phenomenon just like when lightning falls. The surface to process is moved, and becomes filled with countless tiny craters, tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of times per second.<

■What is surface roughness?
With or without any processing, irregularities on surfaces is called surface roughness. The photo is a sample of the processed object, the degree of feature is Ry0.6μm.
■Ry0.6μm…what's the big deal?
In general, "superfinishing" is obtained by processing the surface roughness. Ry0.6μm shows how far we can go in grinding surfaces with discharge processing.

Φ0.25 hole wire processing
Our traditional, round hole drilling Φ0.2 is Φ0.6 mm using a wire until it was reviewed and processing conditions, including the introduction wire Φ0.05 mm in thickness and 10 mm Φ0.25 mm. As a result an accuracy of ± 2 μ m in position and ± 2 μ m in pitch was successful. Currently, further improvements are made to achieve accuracy and processing small hole.
Width 0.05mm wire cutting tooth processing challenge
We're challenging to EDM process 0.05 mm width. To create thinner than 0.05 mm (0.02 mm position) thinner tools than 0.05 mm are required. Just as thin as a cellophane tape of 0.05 mm. EDM machine process is normally a difficult one, but we twisted electrical conditions, making the processing a success.
